The Cropping Unit is used to support teaching and research, however its primary function is to grow fodder to support stock on site and to sell externally.
Crops produced by the Unit are grown in the rich alluvial soil provided by the Lockyer Creek system over 450 hectares.
Crops grown include lucerne, wheat, barley, sorghum, maize, chick peas, soy beans, mung beans, and a wide range of pasture species.
Irrigation is available from storages re-charged from over land flows, bores, the Lockyer Creek, local irrigation schemes and recycled water.
