This year, the Country Challenge on Campus will be held on Sunday afternoon, October 9. The goal of the event is to encourage, school and university students, as well as community members to visit the campus and help us raise money for Beyond Blue during Mental Health Week. With that in mind, the decision was made to move the race to the weekend to allow more locals and competitors from further afield to attend. Being on a Sunday will allow for more fun while on campus, so the Lockyer Valley Regional Council are providing a dive-in movie after the race on their inflatable big scene at the UQ Sport Fitness & Aquatic Centre, which will have free entry after 2pm on the day.
Race kit collections start from 2pm on Sunday, with registration and payment available online beforehand.
Registration from 2pm in the Central Walkway
There will be lots of fun, food and activities to keep the whole family entertained until the 5km fun run (or walk!) starts at 4pm. The 10km race, with more than $10,000 in prizes on offer, will start at 4.30pm. Dinner will be available for $10 per person in the Dining Hall after the 10km finish and the Dive-In Movie will start at 7pm at the pool. There will also be fundraising BBQ's at the pool.
We will have three race categories in the 10km race this year, including School Student, University Student and Open categories.
Prizes for the first male and first female in each category of the 10km run include:
- School student: $4,500 fee reduction on Halls of Residence accommodation for your first year at Gatton1
- University student: $250 gift voucher for the Co-op Bookshop
- Open: UQ Sport 3 month Gold Pass providing access to weights, pool and classes at either Gatton or St Lucia ($250 value)
Entrants are only elligible for one race category and must choose at registration.
The 5km race will be a more social event, with medallions for first male and female across the line.
Dogs are welcome on the course; however, due to safety concerns regarding cyclists travelling at high speed on a shared course, there will no longer be a bike category for the Country Challenge.
A special thanks goes to our sponsors for making the event possible:
